Three Indian boxers, including World Championship silver medalist Amit Panghal, made it to the finals of the Thailand Open boxing tournament in Phuket. In the women's section, Ananta Prahlad (54 weight category) while in men's Sumit (75 weight category) and Panghal (52 weight category) ensured at least silver medals for India after reaching the finals.

Manisha (57 weight category), Pooja (69 weight category) and Bhagyabati Kachari (75 weight category) had to be content with bronze medals after losing in their respective semi-final matches. Four Indian boxers Ashish Kumar (81kg), Monika (48kg), Govind Sahni (48kg) and Varinder Singh (60kg) had already booked their place in the finals. In this way, seven Indian boxers will present a challenge for the gold medal.

Panghal defeated Tran Van Thao of Vietnam and Sumit showed a strong game to beat Ayatollah Takiz of Kazakhstan. Ananta registered an impressive 5-0 victory over Vietnamese boxer Bui Taron Thai.
