Freddy Rincon played for his country in the 1990, 1994 and 1998 World Cups. He jointly holds the record for playing most matches for his country in the World Cup. He has played 10 matches for Colombia in the World Cup. Apart from him, Carlos Valderma has done this feat.
In 1990, Colombia's team reached the final of the World Cup after 28 years. Rincon was also part of this team and in the match against West Germany, this team played a 1–1 draw. Rincon scored a memorable goal in this match. In club football, he was part of Napoli, Palmeiras and Santos. At the same time, he also led Corinthians to victory in the first Club World Cup in the year 200. The tournament was then known as the FIFA Club World Championship.
In 1993, Colombia made it to the World Cup by defeating Argentina by a huge margin of 5-0. In this match too, Rincon scored a goal and contributed significantly to his team's victory. After his death, the doctor said that despite doing everything possible, he could not save Rincon. The serious injuries sustained in his head became the cause of his death.
