India's top female badminton player PV Sindhu clinched her second women's singles title of the current season by defeating Thailand's Busanan Ongbamrangphan in the final of the Swiss Open Super 300 tournament on Sunday. However, HS Prannoy suffered a defeat in the men's singles final. PM Narendra Modi congratulated PV Sindhu for this achievement.

Playing her second successive final in the tournament, two-time Olympic medalist Sindhu defeated the fourth seeded 21-16, 21-8 in a 49-minute match at St. Jacobshalle. This is Sindhu's 16th win in 17 matches against Busanan. She has lost to him only once in the 2019 Hong Kong Open. Prannoy, however, could not overcome the challenge from Indonesia's Jonathan Christie. Prannoy went down 12-21, 18-21 to the fourth seed in a match that lasted 48 minutes.

However, Sindhu has pleasant memories associated with this place. He won a gold medal at the World Championships here in 2019. Sindhu had won the Syed Modi International Super 300 in Lucknow in January this year. The Hyderabad player made an aggressive start in this match and took a 3-0 lead. Busanan, however, made a comeback and leveled the score at 7-7. Busanan was trying to keep Sindhu away from the net but was unable to finish her shot properly. Sindhu had a two-point lead at the break. Sindhu got four game points from a brilliant shot near the backline and she did not delay in capitalizing it. Busanan failed to compete with Sindhu in the second game. Sindhu made it 18-4 after taking a 5-0 lead and then went on to win the match easily.
