Neetu Ghanghas, a resident of Dhanana in Bhiwani, recently won the gold medal in the Strandja Cup in Europe by defeating Italy's player ...
Neetu defeated the Italian boxer 5-0 in the final of the tournament held in Sofia, Bulgaria. Neetu's father Jai Bhagwan told that he works in the assembly. Neetu started training under coach Jagdish in Bhiwani in the year 2012. Since then she has been working hard. She is currently pursuing MPEd from Chaudhary Bansilal University. Her younger brother Akshit Kumar is a shooting player, who recently participated in the national competition.
When Neetu picked up her boxing gloves for the first time in 2012, it was a match between her father's spirit and the mentality of not letting the girls who are deeply rooted in her village get out much. This young boxer emerged victorious in the end. According to Neetu, despite many challenges, her father encouraged her to pursue her dreams in boxing. Neetu's father, Jaya Bhagwan, was so committed to his daughter's career that he put his job at stake and borrowed money to support his family. He was always by his side during the early years of his daughter's career.
Neetu has been a two-time world champion in the age group under 18. Bhiwani, the district she hails from, has given India some of its most successful boxers, including Olympic bronze medalist Vijender Singh. Regarding her success, 21-year-old Neetu said, at that time there was pressure from the society to stay at home. I wanted to become a boxer after watching Vijender Bhaiya win a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
In the year 2012, I decided that this is what I wanted for myself and my father decided that he would do whatever he could to help me. So he went on leave without pay from his state government job for four years and would take me to Bhiwani Boxing Club for training every day. He used to run with me on the road, he always kept my morale up. Everyone in the family supported.
