Colombo: Former Sri Lankan cricketer Dhammika Prasad began a 24-hour hunger strike on Friday, demanding justice for the people of the island nation, which is reeling under the current economic crisis and victims of the Easter Day terror attack. Prasad is protesting to demand justice for the victims of the 2019 Easter Sunday bombings.

He joined a group protesting against Rajapaksa at the Galle Face Esplande near President Gotabaya Rajapaksa's secretariat. Prasad told reporters, “I want justice for all the innocent victims of the bomb blasts.” Prasad, 39, played 25 Tests and 24 ODIs for the country from 2006 to 2015, taking 75 and 32 wickets respectively.

Nine suicide bombers of the local Islamic extremist National Thawaheed Jamaat carried out bomb attacks on three churches and three luxury hotels on April 21, 2019, killing about 270 people and injuring more than 500. Among the dead were 11 Indian nationals.
