New Delhi, PTI. Saina Nehwal's decision not to appear in the selection trials for the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games could be the beginning of the end of her illustrious journey in international badminton that has been going on for over a decade and a half.

Former number one Saina has been a champion of women's badminton at the international level, representing India thrice at the Commonwealth Games (2018 Glasgow, 2010 New Delhi and 2006 Melbourne). There is little doubt that Saina can create the same magic again with her stellar performance in the professional circuit but the Badminton Association of India (BAI) has decided not to participate in the trials in multi-event sports like Commonwealth Games, Asiad, Olympics and Uber. Could ruin his chance of representation in the Cup.

Frustrated, Saina took to Twitter to accuse BAI of not responding to her e-mails and also questioned the rationale behind conducting her trials. The federation, however, has maintained silence on this, indicating that a change has begun in women's singles and the focus will now be only on the younger generation who will be given a chance to showcase their talent at the international level. Olympic medalist and former number one badminton player Saina Nehwal has questioned the dates for the Commonwealth and Asian Games selection by the Badminton Association of India (BAI). BAI has announced the trials from April 15 to April 20 which are going on at Indira Gandhi Stadium in Delhi.

He has expressed his displeasure through Twitter, citing his busy schedule. He has made three tweets one after the other and has kept his point. She has written that it is being said through some articles that she will not be able to defend her Commonwealth title. I will not be able to participate in this trials as I have just returned from Europe after 3 weeks. It is not possible to appear in the trials at such short notice. I have sent a message to BAI but there is no response from their side. Looks like they want me to stay out of Commonwealth"

Expressing his displeasure, he wrote that I wish we had a better understanding of managing a schedule and not announcing events with 10 days notice. I am currently ranked No. 23 and I almost beat the world No. 1 Akane in the All England. BAI wants to humiliate me because of a loss in Indian Open.
Let us tell you that PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen and Kidambi Srikanth have been given qualification without trials. Players whose ranking is below 15 get direct qualification. Currently Saina's ranking is 23. He has 3 medals in Commonwealth Games to his name. He won one in 2010 and two medals in 2018.
