126 years ago, on this day, the biggest event of the Games was the Olympic Games. The first Olympic Games were held in Athens, Greece on 6 April 1896. This day is being celebrated as International Day of Sport for Development and Peace since 2014.

In fact, the United Nations General Assembly proposed to celebrate the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace in order to raise awareness of the role and contribution of sport around the world and its development. It was first announced on 23 August 2013 by the United Nations General Assembly to be celebrated every year. Recognizing this in 2014, the Olympic Association decided to celebrate the opening day of the first Olympic Games on 6 April. Since then every year 6 April is celebrated as International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP).

On this day, sports organizations and institutions working for the development of sports are encouraged at the international, national and regional level. Various sports events are organized at national and regional level in the country. The players who participated in it are also honored. One of the objectives of celebrating International Day of Sport for Development and Peace is to tell the world the importance of social change and unity through sports, as well as to promote peace in the world.
